My Tubal Reversal Journey With A Personal Choice

My Tubal Reversal Journey With A Personal Choice

After 6 long years, my husband and I were so excited that I was finally getting a tubal reversal! I immediately started researching to find the best doctor to perform the surgery. After reading numerous positive reviews and practically dissecting their website, I decided to go with A Personal Choice located in Raleigh, NC. Initially, I was going to go with another facility that offered the surgery for a lower price but the reviews were hit or miss and the information provided on their website wasn’t as thorough as I thought it should be. I wasn’t taking any chances with my health and needed to be reassured that I was going to the best doctor.

From Start To Finish

The process from start to finish went very smooth. Dr. Monteith and his team were awesome! Anytime I had a question or concern, someone was there to take my call or they would return my call the same day. They were very efficient so you can expect the process to go pretty fast. Their website is also very thorough and has all of the information that you would ever need.

I decided to create a timeline to show you my experience from start to finish:

August 16, 2019 – I requested an Operative Report from the doctor that performed my tubal ligation to be sent to A Personal Choice.

August 19, 2019 – A Personal Choice contacted me and sent over the forms I needed to fill out. I filled them out and faxed them back later that day. I couldn’t wait so I went ahead and booked our hotel. I went to get a CBC (complete blood count) done. I also went to my bank and wired the money for my surgery to A Personal Choice.

August 20, 2019 – A Personal Choice called me to confirm my surgery scheduled for September 11.

September 10, 2019 – We met with Dr. Monteith at A Personal Choice. During this appoinment he discussed the procedure in further detail, went over post op instructions, had me sign some papers, answered any questions me and my husband had, and showed me where the incision would be made. Later that day, we checked into our hotel.

September 11, 2019 –  I arrived for my procedure. They took me and my husband to a pre surgery waiting room in the back where I changed into my gown, emptied my bladder, and they started my IV. I was then taken into the surgery room (my husband had to wait in another area). The last thing I remember was sitting on the surgery table, being asked a couple of questions to verify, seeing them put medicine in my IV, feeling relaxed, and drifting off as I laid back. The next thing I remember is waking up in the post op room with my husband. The nurse helped me walk and my husband brought the car around so that we could leave and go to our hotel.

September 12, 2019 – Dr. Monteith was going out of town so he visited our hotel room to do my post op visit.

December 31, 2019 – I got a positive pregnancy test!!!

POSITIVE. Look at those dark lines!! Doctor's office grade pregnancy test aka Dollar Store brand 😉

The Facility

The facility was in a great area, close to restaurants, shopping, and hotels. It was clean and had nice calming  decor. The facility was ran efficiently as well. There were t.v.’s in the waiting areas and adequate space in each room.

The Staff

I honestly would have never imagined that I would be so at ease about having surgery. There was never a time when I wasn’t clear about something. Dr. Monteith and his team thoroughly went over important information more than once and had no problem answering my questions. They never made me feel like I was being rushed or that I was bothering them.

The Hotel

A Personal Choice requires that you stay at one of their preferred hotels that are in close proximity to their facility to eliminate tardiness. Their preferred hotel is the Hyatt House but they offer more affordable options as well. Unfortunately, the Hyatt House gets booked pretty fast so we ended up staying at Comfort Inn. The hotel was clean, offered a continental breakfast, and was in close proximity to restaurants and shopping.

The Price

This is where I cringed. $6,900. It is an expensive procedure but I have actually seen higher prices at other facilities. At least at this facility you’re getting grade A care and a great experience. There are loans available to help pay for the surgery, but keep in mind that it will need to be paid back, with interest.

How Did I Heal?

My incision healed nicely. There was pain the first two weeks but the pain meds helped with that. I was able to walk around but slowly. The pain and discomfort was minimal to none about a month later. My husband was there every step of the way and helped nurse me back to good health. He brought me food in bed and kept track of my medication schedule.

The reality of post surgery. Eating soup in a messy bed. Lots of pillows. My mini me decided to join me.

My Overall Experience

What I loved most about A Personal Choice is that they didn’t just provide a surgery they provided a whole experience. They went above and beyond to provide the best care and the most enjoyable experience. I felt like I was receiving special treatment the entire time, although I know that’s not true. With the convenient location we were able to pick up my prescription the day before my surgery and enjoy lunch outdoors at one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants, Chuy’s, after checking into our hotel. I would highly recommend A Personal Choice to anyone considering a tubal reversal!

The 4 clamps that were removed from my tubes. I had 2 clamps on each tube.
